BUDAPEST — Hungary’s premier showcase for local pics, the Hungarian Film Week, opened its doors Tuesday, with around 400 titles set to screen.

The fest, which runs until Feb. 5, has 18 features, 36 shorts and experimental films, 33 docus, 13 scientific pics and three experimental docus vying for kudos.

Another 22 features screen out of competition and the fest also contains a large slate of pics as part of its various retrospective sidebars.

Although the fest’s opening ceremonies were scheduled for Tuesday evening, the Film Week was unofficially launched on Monday night at Budapest’s Urania cinema with the Hungarian premiere of Bela Tarr’s “The Man from London.”
